Alyssa Lederer, PhD, MPH, CHES, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University and an affiliated faculty investigator with the Tulane Prevention Research Center (PRC).

Dr. Lederer received her PhD in Health Behavior from Indiana University’s School of Public Health-Bloomington, MPH in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, and BA in Studies in Health and Society and Studies in Women and Gender from the University of Virginia. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

In the past, Dr. Lederer has worked in several public health settings, including the non-profit sector, as a university-based health promotion specialist for students and employees, and as a program development and evaluation contractor for K-12 schools.

Much of her work has focused on enhancing young people’s health and well-being, especially in the areas of sexual health, nutrition, and physical activity, with an emphasis on the intersection between health education and behavior change. She has taught courses at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and she has been on the editorial boards of the Journal of American College Health and Pedagogy in Health Promotion: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

When she is not working, Dr. Lederer enjoys taking advantage of all the great things that New Orleans has to offer, reading for pleasure, and playing with her dog, a rescue corgi named Bisco.
