Gretchen Clum is an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Science at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and a co-investigator for the Tulane Prevention Research Center (PRC). Dr. Clum holds degrees from Virginia Tech in Psychology (BS); and the University of Georgia in Psychology (MS and PhD). She completed a clinical psychology internship at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at the Medical University of South Carolina and postdoctoral training at the Center for Trauma Recovery at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine before coming to Tulane. Dr. Clum’s research has focused on exposure to stressful events, violence, HIV, mental health, and health outcomes in women and adolescents. Her goal is to understand the mechanisms linking these issues in order to develop and test evidence-based interventions to transform the negative health effects of stressful life events. She also has an interest in social and behavioral factors influencing nutrition and physical activity and interventions to maximize health and wellbeing for women and adolescents. Dr. Clum is a member of the Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society. She has been a reviewer for academic journals in the area of traumatic stress and violence, HIV, and nutrition. She was the recipient of an NIMH funded Mentored Career Award (K-01), and an NIH Pediatric Research Loan Repayment award. She was awarded a dissertation grant from the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology, and also received teaching awards. In her spare time, Dr. Clum enjoys cooking, working out at Tulane’s Reily Center, spending time with her family on the soccer fields, and enjoying New Orleans food and festivals.
