Matthew Rufo, Program Manager

Matt Rufo, MCP, LEED AP, is a bicycle and pedestrian transportation planner and serves as program manager for the Prevention Research Center (PRC) at Tulane University. He manages the KidsWalk Coalition, a partnership of local public health, transportation and community organizations led by the PRC that is committed to reducing childhood obesity by promoting safe, walkable and bikeable streets in New Orleans. Through the PRC’s partnership with the Department of Public Works, Matt provides direct support to the City’s transportation engineers on pedestrian and bicycling projects. In previous work, he researched New Orleans infrastructure funding for the Bureau of Governmental Research and helped launch the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority’s Lot Next Door program. Matt holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from Brown University and a Master of City Planning degree and Certificate in Urban Design from the University of Pennsylvania School of Design, where he earned the Ann Louise Strong Leadership Award. He is a member of the American Planning Association and the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, and is coauthor of the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy report ‘U.S. Parking Policies: An Overview of Management Strategies.’ Matt enjoys staying active by biking the colorful streets of New Orleans and chasing his dog Zoe around the French Quarter dog park.
