Nutrition Bites: Mindful Eating

Most of the population eats to eat. We are good at it, we know we need to eat in order to fuel our day, but rarely do we spend the time to savor and dissect what is being put into our mouths. Junk food and fast food are not layered with flavor and texture. They do not excite our pallet with new variety.

Eating on the go leads to mindless eating and lacks emotional investment in the food prepared and later enjoyed. Poor eating habits not only develop based on a convenience standpoint but as a means of trying to make oneself feel better, satisfy sugar and salt cravings, as well as attempting to relieve stress.

Consciously making a change in not only what foods we are eating but how and why we are eating is difficult. Eating fills the empty spaces throughout our day and because of that we eat without thinking, our minds focused on the next thing to come.

When practicing mindful eating you will learn:
How food makes you feel emotionally during and after
What is triggering your hunger/desire to eat?
The appearance, texture, flavor and smell of each food choice
How was the food grown and/or processed?

Mindful eating is a hot topic and many have become increasingly more aware of what flavors and textures they enjoy, mostly by attempting to implement mindful eating into their daily routine. Not only are you now observing underlying flavors and textures you never noticed before, you’re becoming aware of how food makes you feel.
