Staff Spotlight

Keelia O'Malley, MPH, is the assistant director at the Tulane Prevention Research Center (PRC). Her responsibilities include supervision of PRC staff, coordination of programs and relationships with community advisory board members and partner organizations, and assisting the director in identifying and implementing PRC activities within all of the key elements of the center. Keelia is a graduate of Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine where she received her Master in Public Health in Community Health Sciences and Nutrition. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Loyola University in New Orleans. Keelia was previously the program manager for the core research at the PRC, managing multiple projects examining changes to the food environment across the city of New Orleans, within specific neighborhoods of New Orleans, and among families and children residing in different New Orleans neighborhoods. This has specifically included a study examining changes in food store inventory based on modifications to The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) package in October 2009 as well as a city-wide study examining the effects of new food stores in New Orleans. Prior to joining the Tulane PRC, Keelia worked on a number of obesity prevention programs including nutrition education at worksites through the ACTION! Program, and nutrition and anthropometric assessments of obese patients and development of specialized health education materials through the University of South Alabama Pediatric Healthy Life Center. Keelia is the recipient of numerous honors including the Excellence in Nutrition Award, Dean's Scholastic Award and membership in the Delta Omega Public Health Honorary Society. In her spare time, Keelia loves to enjoy the crescent city, from trying new restaurants and listening to live music, to running in the park and cheering on the boys in black and gold!
